Degummed Hemp Bast Fiber (0.75"–1.5")
Degummed hemp bast fiber is a refined natural fiber processed to remove lignin and pectin, allowing the individual fibers to separate and become finer, softer, and more flexible. This additional processing step significantly enhances the fiber’s hand feel, spinnability, and compatibility with textile and specialty applications.
Following degumming, the fiber is combed and shortened to an average length of approximately 0.75 to 1.5 inches. This controlled length and improved cleanliness make it particularly well-suited for blending and spinning, while maintaining the inherent strength and durability that hemp is known for.
Textile & Yarn Applications
Degummed hemp fiber is ideal for blending with cotton and spinning into hemp/cotton yarns, offering a natural way to enhance strength, durability, and moisture management in finished textiles. It can also be blended with synthetic and regenerated fibers such as polyester, nylon, rayon, and lyocell to create a wide range of specialty yarns with unique performance characteristics.
Soft Fiber & Filling Applications
With its softer texture and increased absorbency, degummed hemp fiber is also well-suited for use as a natural filling material in upholstery, cushions, and pillows. Its breathability and moisture-wicking properties make it an excellent alternative to synthetic fills.
Additional Industrial Uses
Beyond textiles, degummed hemp fiber can be used in nonwoven materials, filtration media, specialty papers, and high-performance composites where finer fiber structure and improved bonding are desirable. Its enhanced surface area and flexibility make it particularly effective in applications requiring uniform dispersion and smooth processing.
