Hemp Traders is pleased to offer official fiber variety hemp planting seed. These are live, viable hemp seeds which can be cultivated by farmers as an industrial hemp fiber crop. These seeds are from China and are the strain YUMA. These seeds are unique in that they are approximately 4-7 times the size of regular hemp seeds. They are suited for latitudes 10-34 degrees. They are dioecious and suited for fiber or grain.

Latitude
Latitude is very important. Make sure your location fits within the latitude specified or you may get plants that flower one month after sprouting.

Seeding rates for Fiber
75 pounds per acre. Recommended planting between mid March through May. 13-18' feet tall males and females. Harvest at the end of August through early September. Flowering begins usually in September.

Seeding Rates for Grain
25-35 pounds per acre. Plant between May though early June. Flowering begins in September and seeds are ready to harvest in September through October.

Storage >1 year: Freeze

Industrial hemp is defined as cannabis having 0.3% or less THC in the leaves and flowers. Please note these seeds are not certified and should be harvested for fiber prior to flowering to avoid levels of THC above 0.3%. If growing for grain/seeds, THC levels begin to drop once the flowers are fertilized and seed production commences.

On April 12, 2018, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) introduced S. 2667, The Hemp Farming Act of 2018. The bill defines hemp as Cannabis with 0.3% THC or less by dry weight including all parts of the plant and removes it from the Controlled Substances Act. It allows states to regulate commercial hemp farming after submitting a plan to regulate it to the USDA. The bill authorizes crop insurance for hemp and provides funding for hemp research.

The bill also defines hemp more broadly than the previous Farm Bill and now explicitly includes extracts and cannabinoids derived from the plant.
